Recovery Community Organization · Northern Nevada
Building a life worth staying sober for.
Invictus is Latin for unconquered. Not that we never struggle, but that we refuse to stay down. We are a community led by people in recovery, for people in recovery.
What Invictus Means
Invictus means unconquered.
Not because life never knocks us down.
Not because recovery is perfect.
Because every day, people choose to stand back up.
The name does not mean life is easy. It does not mean people never struggle. It means they refuse to stay down.
Recovery is not about never falling.
It is about refusing to stay there.
The Poem Behind the Name
The name Invictus comes from William Ernest Henley's poem of the same name. Written during a period of immense suffering, it has become a symbol of resilience, courage, and the refusal to surrender.
For many people in recovery, these words carry a familiar truth. Life can be hard. Circumstances can be brutal. Yet something inside remains unconquered.
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
I am the master of my fate.
I am the captain of my soul.
William Ernest Henley, Invictus
Who We Are
Recovery is more than not using. It is what fills the space that using used to occupy.
We exist to help people build those things. We are led by people in recovery and centered on the belief that long-term recovery grows through connection, community, and purpose.
To help people build a life worth staying sober for through connection, community, and purpose.
To create a recovery-centered community where people can gather, connect, grow, and belong.
What Is an RCO?
A Recovery Community Organization supports the part of recovery that happens between appointments and after the meeting ends. We are not a clinic or a treatment center. We are the people who are still here when the program is over.
Recovery coaching and peer support from people who have walked the road. Help that comes from lived experience, not a clipboard.
Education, events, and connection that bring recovery into the open and meet people where they already are.
Speaking up for the dignity, rights, and visibility of people in recovery, and changing how the community talks about them.
Programs
Our work is built around the four things research says people need to sustain recovery: health, home, purpose, and community. You do not build those alone.
Recovery coaching, peer support, and connection to treatment and care when it is needed. Support from people who have been where you are.
Help navigating safe, stable, recovery-supportive housing, because recovery is hard to hold onto without a place to stand.
Outdoor and active programming, hikes and lifting and movement, plus skill-building, volunteering, and education that give the day meaning.
Sober social events and real connection that do not revolve around a drink, and a community that stays after the program ends.
Recovery Housing
Recovery is hard to hold onto without a stable place to live. Part of our long-term vision is recovery-supportive housing in Northern Nevada, where people early in recovery can live in community, with support and accountability, while they rebuild.
We are building toward that. In the meantime, we help people find and navigate the housing and resources that exist today. If housing is what you need, reach out and we will point you in the right direction.
Get Involved
Whether you are in recovery, you love someone who is, or you want to help build this, we would love to hear from you. Leave your details and we will reach out.
